People of the Word
How important is the Word of God? And how is this importance translated into the actual time spend in reading the Word? Deuteronomy 8 reminds us that if we neglect God's Word, we will go astray from HIM. This is the simple reality of our spiritual life. It is interesting to see how God taught the Israelites this crucial lesson. Imagine more than 2 million people in the desert - no water and no food: a hostile place to live. At times they walked for days and found no water (see Ex. 15:22). At times they found water but it was not drinkable! All this to register an important point: the giving of manna (God's provision) was to teach that we live not by bread alone but by every Word of God. The key lesson in this week's sermon is this: we need the Word, just as much we need physical food & water. The Word of God is able to keep a "check" on our heart. The makeup of our heart is such that if the Word is neglected, soon or later it will have its own way in a person's life. And this will spell disaster. Taking time daily to meditation on the Word will cause one to enjoy God's blessings and live a truly meaningful and fruitful lifeLabels: Sunday Sermon
