Business of Multiplication
Today's message is about releasing God given resources for the God given tasks. In Mark 6: 30 - 44, Jesus challenges the disciples to "feed the 5,000." This is certainly an impossible task for the 12 disciples. As the church confronts the needs of the world, it sometimes seem to dispair of how little it really has to offer. But, the God given task requires the "Jesus factor". Unless, we bring the 'little' that we have and lay it down at His feet, we can never see the miracle of multiplications. Not only Jesus meets the need of the 5,000 but they end up feeling "satisfied" and picking up 12 basket of "leafovers". Doesn't this reflect the heart of God. My prayer today is that the church will indeed become the God given channel of meeting the God given challenges in the world. We must never limit God - in the things that He wants to accomplish in our lives & communities.Labels: Sunday Sermon

In our bible study discussion a few weeks ago, when we were doing the same account in the Gospel of John. We find that John specifically mentioned that the 5 loaves and 2 fishes were brought forward by a wee lad and the loaves were barley loaves, which in that context were poor people's food.
We think that human being human, the people there would have carried food with them and obviously were unwilling to part with their "good" food, and their faith would have been small as to wonder what God can do with "so little".
Therefore:
(1) it took the faith of a wee lad to offer up all he had.
(2) if the people would have had offered their better food compared to the lousy barley loaves, everyone would have enjoyed much better food in huge volumes.
We human are very distrustful and very stingy. God have mercy on us.
Interesting point about the 'type' or 'quality' of food that was served. Hmm...something to think about. Thanks Pearlie for that interesting comment.

just a thought...actually the church has a lot of resources. it is just concentrated in a few big churches in cities...not necessary USA only but even in Asia and even in Malaysia. Most of the resources are spent on themselves. If they do give, lets say for example, RM200,000, they pat themselves and say "Well done! we did God's will". They then go and spend, example, RM 5 million on their church building.
in short, its not that God has not blessed the church. It is just that those blessed materially churches hold on tightly to those blessings and not give them away.
Just my opinion though..:P
