Gay Story?
Have you hear anything about the ex-gay stand? Have you had the opportunity to hear the story of how 'gays' or 'people like us' could be changed by the power of Christ? Have you realised that recovery is possible for somone who is struggling with a different sexual orientation?
This is so unheard of in the world that we live in. In fact as we discovered in a lecture organised yesterday by the Counselors Network in Klang Valley that the world is so exposed to 'pro-gay' movement.
One important point that Edmund Smith (our speaker) shared was the importance of loving people irrespective of whether they want to change or not. This is not to say that we condone their lifestyle but we extend the same love that Christ has shown us. "For while we were yet sinners Christ died for us." (Bible) Edmund's conviction is that to be an ex-gay is better. Why settle for something else when you can have the very best in God?
I guess the question in most people's mind, especially in those who suffer from such a situation is whether such stand is possible? One may ask, 'show me one example....yes just one example that will give hope to such disease / situation?'

One more thing before i end this article. I think one of the most valuable lesson that i learn from the talk yesterday was the fact that there are some people who are drawn to people of the same gender but are not homosexuals! (no romantic or sexual involvement). Liking someone of the same gender does not equal to homosexuality. However, Edmund pointed out that if the society tend to 'brand' such people (discrimate) and isolate them there are possibility that it can lead to such practices.
Well, i hope i have said a few things that is causing you to react. Please by no means conclude your position after reading this, but explore the subject further. Edmund has indicated his willingness to speak about such topics. He is an excellent speak, plus a singer too! You may want to consider this person as a speaker in your youth group. (please get clearance from your Pastor first).

Yes 'static brain' i agree with you! (100%) I think we must welcome them as people for whom the Lord died for...just like anyone else. I do have a good friend who is in the same situation. And someone else too who is very close struggles with the same problem. Both are still my good friends. One interesting thing that Edmund shared was that whether they want to change or not, we must love them as we would anyone else. I guess, often times the church struggles with situation like this because it lacks proper understanding. We don't understand the problem, therefore we fear. Our fear leads to a hostile reaction. Therefore, educating people and exposing them to the heart of the matter is important. I also think that deep inside 'gay people' are struggling and looking for people who would be their friend. I hope i don't sound as if they are the only people who need help. Frankly speaking, we all do and one of the best thing we can do for someone who's in need is to be a friend. Afterall, isn't this what Jesus meant when he said that we should love one another as we would love our self?

thanks Chris for raising this often "complicated" issue. Here's an article I read on how both who hold differing opinions on the matter learn to handle this hot issue as a couple both committed to follwing Jesus, and loving people.
