Southern District Counselors Meeting

The Counselors in the Southern District met on August 31 at Melaka Wesley. The JB team drove all the way from JB to be present at the meeting, and we are very grateful for all those who made a special effort to be there. Thank You. Your presence and support goes a long way in the development of Youth Ministry in TRAC. Our three hours meeting started off with worship. Then we watched a video together, "The Columbine Story". Everyone had the opportunity to share about their own local Youth Ministry and we also spent some time praying together.

I guess one of the challenges that came across at this meeting was to see the work of God in the lives of our young people. We must never underestimate the authenticity and depth of their spiritual experiences. Born again Youths are very much in tune with God.

Have you wondered why in Joel God says that "your children will prophecy"? I think it is because they have to rely totally upon God to tell them what to do. Somehow as the years goes by we become a bit dull in hearing God. "The Haze" begins to set in.

One major concern that the Counselors brought out in the discussion was the relationship between parents and Youth Ministry. We began to see how important it is in Youth Ministry to touch base with parents. Anyone serious about relating to Youths cannot avoid relating to their parents. I have often found that parents are more than willing to talk about their children to the Youth Worker and they are really delighted when we pray together with them. We must always be encouraged to see parents as "co-parterners" in ministering to the needs of the Youths. In fact, they have a much major role and responsibilities!
