Discipleship

On this weekend, our church leadership will be involve in a planning retreat. One of the key area of focus is discipleship. I remember Howard Hendricks once asked the question, "what does a disciple look like." I know that the question sounds simple and easy, but give some thought to it. How do disciples look like? Would you know one, if you bump into them? What picture can we paint about a disciple? How do you produce them?

Jesus said, "go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything i have commanded you."

Hi, Doreen Wan here. I thought you gave up on blogging.

How are things with you guys? Been thinking about you and your family. Still trying to find time to meet up with you and Rhema.

Good question: how about
- humility
- meekness
- blossoming of the fruit of the Spirit
- showing the qualities mentioned in the Beatitudes: poor in spirit, those who mourn, gentle, hunger and thirst for righteousness, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers, those persecuted for the sake of righteousness, those insulted and persecuted because of Christ.

And how to produce them:
As you have quoted the Great Commission - teaching them to obey everything God has commanded.

This is no small feat.

p/s hope Yohannen is feeling better and so are the mommy and the daddy :) God is with you!

Pearlie, i think at the end of the day it really is about "obedience". This is what would distinguish one from the other. It is no wonder, Jesus talked about "teaching them to obey my commandments". And the other thought that came to my mind was that you cannot manufacture disciples. Jesus thought about it as he walked with his disciples. no fast, easy method here.
