Little things....

Rhema and I were shocked! I was driving and passed through a junction where a number of cars were thrown off the road. Obviously there was an accident involving about four cars at the Federal Highway. How could that have happened? Federal Highway? So many cars? Well, I think what would have happened is cars speeding and somehow something went wrong resulting in what we have just witnessed. As usual, i thought there must be some sermon illustration there! (Rhema wonders why at times I am very quiet.....guess what is happening in my mind?)

I am sure all drivers would agree with me. Sometimes we get so used to driving that we think nothing is to be feared when we are on the road. We are in control and we can drive through any situation that presents itself (exageration a bit here). But the sure thing is that we become so accustomed with driving that it becomes second nature; we begin to take some basic rules and behavour for granted. As my wife usually says, "sometimes it is the small things that would stumble you."

The apostle Paul would had have this in his mind when he wrote, "continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling" (Phil. 2:12) The good news is that our salvation is not ours to work alone. Paul says this in response to a deeper truth that is at work in all of our lives. "for it is God who works in you to will and act according to his good purpose." (Phil.2:13)

Hey, you know something? God is working in you right now so that you can do what pleases and honours Him! So next time when you struggle in carrying out is will, pause for a moment and think of Who is at work in you.

Therefore, let's not be like the wreckless drivers who got into an accident. Let's learn to pay attention and keep the basic things of our faith. Let's sweat it out with fear and trembling. Let's respond to the grace that is given to us today to live according to the will of God!
